This is a collection of chair designs produced during experimentation with volume and space, extruding two dimensional ideas into three dimensional objects.
Round chair is a dining armchair sculpted from a solid piece of wood. It is supported by steel legs bent from a solid piece of steel rod. Color is used on the edge of the chair to highlight the design.
Gathering inspiration from Frank Gehry's extruded chair designs, Triangle dining chair was initially designed in two dimensions based on a combination of three triangles and then extruded to the third dimension. The main body of the chair is consisted of two blocks of laminated cork layers which form the seat, the back and the rear legs. The blocks are divided by a black solid acrylic piece which forms both the front leg and a coat hanger at the back. Despite the fact that the rear side of the chair is perpendicular to the ground, it offers a comfortable inclined seat.
Sheet chair is a dining chair that utilises simple construction techniques using birch plywood sheets and a CNC machine. All cut parts are thin and flat taking advantage of plywood's stiffness. Wood pieces are connected via mitered dovetail joints in order to reduce flexibility. The sitting pillow requires a special construction in order to be removable but also perfectly aligned in the middle of the horizontal axis of the seat.
Line chairs is a pair of expressive sculptures, resulted after extensive experimentation in chair design and structure. The approach is based on a line that floats in space forming the basic shape of a chair. The final sculptures are made by angle cutting, twisting and joining a single piece of solid square wood rod.
Bend chair is an experimental chair based on KM's logo outline. The chair is designed in two dimensions and extruded to the third by folding a sheet following chair's side view. The sheet is made of a layer of plywood and a layer of black acrylic, laminated together.
